Peter Kolbeck, M.D.

Medical Director and Renal Pathologist

Kolbeck

Dr. Kolbeck is the Medical Director and a renal pathologist at PathLogic in West Sacramento, California. He founded PathLogic in 1999, after spending five years in practice with a large private pathology group in Sacramento, where he served as Director of Renal Biopsy and Electron Microscopy Lab Services. He is past-president of the California Society of Pathologists, has been active in academic research, teaching, and clinical service at three different major university medical centers (Duke, University of Nebraska, and University of California, Davis), and has written for many publications, including research papers, and book chapters on nephropathology. He has presented on various aspects of renal and transplant pathology at more than twenty national and international scientific venues. Dr. Kolbeck received his medical degree from Emory University, and completed his post-graduate education in anatomical pathology and immunopathology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. He is board certified in Anatomic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.

Dr. Tajinder (TJ) Bisla

Dr. Tajinder (TJ) Bisla joined PathLogic in 2016. Prior to joining PathLogic, Dr. Bisla worked at Cellnetix Pathology & Laboratories, a multispecialty hospital-based pathology practice in Seattle, WA. He received his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology, and a fellowship in general surgical pathology at University of California, San Diego. He has broad expertise in all areas of surgical pathology and cytopathology including genitourinary, gastrointestinal, liver, lung, breast, gynecologic, thyroid, lymph node, and bone marrow pathology. Dr. Bisla is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.



Dr. John SJ Lee, M.D.

Dr. John SJ Lee

Dr. Lee has 5 years of experience in Nephropathology and began working withthe PathLogic nephropathology team in 2016. He also serves as the Director ofNephropathology/Electron Microscopy and the Radiation Safety Officer at PacificRim Pathology. Dr. Lee received his medical degree from University of Hawaii andcompleted his pathology residency and fellowship at the University of California,San Diego Medical Center, where he was Chief Resident. Dr. Lee has publishedseveral research papers on various aspects of surgical pathology and is boardcertified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.



Henry (Kelly) McNeely, M.D.

Dr. Henry (Kelly) McNeely

Dr. McNeely is the Director of Dermatopathology at PathLogic in West Sacramento, California. He joined PathLogic as a dermatopathologist in 2007, focused exclusively on the examination of dermatologic specimens, including melanomas, carcinomas, lymphomas, sarcomas, inflammatory dermatoses, other benign and malignant tumors, and alopecia. He is expert in the utilization of histochemical stains, immunohistochemistry, skin immunofluorescence and molecular diagnostics to achieve an efficient and accurate diagnosis in a timely fashion. Dr. McNeely has over 27 years of experience in pathology, including fourteen years with Diagnostic Pathology Medical Group where his primary focus was on dermatopathology. During this time, Dr. McNeely served as the Laboratory Medical Director at Sutter Davis Hospital from 1993 to 2006. Prior to this, he was in private practice at the Woodland Clinic Medical Group, where half of his full-time practice consisted of dermatopathology. In his career, Dr. McNeely has examined more than 200,000 dermatologic specimens. Dr. McNeely received his medical degree and completed his internship at the University of California, Davis. He then finished his pathology residency at Kaiser San Francisco, where he was Chief Resident for two years. Dr. McNeely has received training from or worked alongside esteemed dermatopathologists such as Bernard Ackerman, Philip LeBoit, Timothy McCalmont, Beth Ruben, Scott Binder, Oliver Stanton, Robert Ghiselli, Robert Wisner and David Guillen. Dr. McNeely is board certified in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.



Shane M. Meehan, M.D.

Dr. Shane M. Meehan

Dr. Meehan has 20 years of experience in Nephropathology and began workingwith PathLogic in 2016. He also serves as a Nephropathologist at Pacific RimPathology and Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, California. He graduated from the National University of Ireland, Dublin, and subsequently served as aNephrology Resident at Meath Hospital and Anatomic Pathology Resident atMater Hospital, both in Dublin, Ireland. He relocated to the U.S. and becameChief Resident in Pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston,Massachusetts where he also completed a fellowship in Nephropathology. From1996 to 2014, Dr. Meehan held academic appointments in the department ofPathology at the University of Chicago. During this period, he advanced fromassistant professor to full professor and became Director of Renal Pathologyas well as the Director of the fellowship program in Renal Pathology. He haswritten or contributed to more than 70 publications on nephropathology, includingarticles, book chapters, reviews and case studies. Dr. Meehan is board certified inAnatomic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.



Elvira Milano, M.D.

Dr. Milano serves as PathLogic’s Co-Director of Cytopathology. Dr. Milano has more than twenty years of cytopathology, surgical pathology, clinical pathology and medical director experience in various hospital settings. She acquired her medical degree from Tulane University, and completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and fellowship in Surgical Pathology at the University of California, San Francisco. She is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.



Michael Orejudos, M.D.

Dr. Michael Orejudos

Dr. Orejudos serves as a Cytopathologist for PathLogic and Chief of Cytopathology and Medical Director of Microbiologyat the David Grant U.S. Air Force Medical Center. He received his medicaldegree from Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda,Maryland. He completed his transitional internship at Malcolm Grow MedicalCenter Transitional Internship National Capital Consortium at Andrews AFB,Maryland. Dr. Orejudos completed his pathology residency and cytopathologyfellowship at the San Antonio Uniformed Pathology Residency Services HealthEducation AP/CP Consortium. He is board certified in Anatomic and ClinicalPathology and holds a subspecialty certification in Cytopathology.



David Thomas, M.D.

Dr. David Thomas

Dr. Thomas began working with PathLogic in 2016. He has over 20 years ofexperience in Nephropathology and currently is Professor of Pathology forthe Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. In addition to servingas a practicing pathologist, Dr. Thomas has previously served in academicappointments at University of North Carolina, Albert Einstein College of Medicine,Montefiore Medical Center, and as visiting faculty at NYU Medical School. Hereceived his medical degree from the Brody School of Medicine at East CarolinaUniversity, and completed his pathology residency and nephropathologyfellowship at the University of North Carolina Hospitals. Dr. Thomas has writtenmultiple book chapters and published 4 dozen peer-reviewed papers mostrelated to nephropathology. He has also contributed as a co-investigator on morethan a dozen nephropathology research grants and has lectured at numerousnephropathology conferences and seminars. Dr. Thomas is board certified inAnatomic and Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.



Katherine Unger, M.D.

Dr. Katherine Unger

Dr. Unger has been a renal pathologist at PathLogic in West Sacramento, California since 2002. She earned her medical degree from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of California, Davis, where she also was Chief Resident. She then completed a fellowship in Hematopathology at the University of California, Davis, followed by a renal pathology fellowship at PathLogic. Dr. Unger is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and holds a subspecialty certification in Hematopathology from the American Board of Pathology.

Robert A. Schoenfeld, Ph.D., MB(ASCP)

Molecular Laboratory Supervisor

Dr. Robert A Schoenfeld

Dr. Schoenfeld is the supervisor of the Molecular Laboratory at the PathLogic facility in West Sacramento, CA. Prior to joining PathLogic, he gained more than 22 years of experience in molecular biology performing research and teaching in academic settings. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Utah, Department of Biology, with a focused study on the gene structure of peptide neurotoxins. Following this, he completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California, Davis, first in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology studying RNA transcriptional regulation following immune injury, then in the School of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Molecular Biosciences studying transcriptional regulation and pathophysiological changes in Friedreich’s ataxia and other mitochondrial diseases. Following this, he was appointed as a Research Faculty member in the Department of Molecular Biosciences, where he continued this work. Dr. Schoenfeld is certified as a Molecular Biology Technician by the American Society of Clinical Pathology.
